White paper drafted by RRBC staff in April 2013 that outlines our recommended approach for conducting river watershed and river corridor planning for the Rivanna River.

The RRBC provided comment on the proposed Walker's Ridge PUD rezoning, near the Village of Palmyra.

RRBC Letter to Charlottesville City Council re: Proposed Stormwater Utility Fee, January 2, 2013
The RRBC applauds the City of Charlottesville’s ongoing exploration of funding sources to offset the significant costs of managing stormwater originating in the city. The City’s consideration of the proposed stormwater utility fee provides an opportunity for Charlottesville to set a good example for the other localities in the Rivanna watershed faced with similar challenges.

The RRBC provided comment the decision for the Albemarle and Charlottesville Planning Commissions to hold a joint session September 18, 2012, to discuss ways to coordinate planning along the Rivanna River.

The RRBC provided comment on new information and circumstances relevant to environmental concerns and bearing on the proposed Route 29 ByPass project and potential impacts since completion of previous studies.

The RRBC is writing to encourage the preservation of local water quality and watershed ecological health as a cornerstone in developing Phase II watershed implementation plans (WIP) in Virginia to meet the Chesapeake Bay TMDL allocations.

The RRBC provided input to Greene County on the County's "2009 Greene County Comprehensive Plan Draft Goals and Implementation Strategies" that offer suggestions for enhancing watershed protection and especially for conserving existing healthy waters in the County.

RRBC Letter to localities on altered hydrology
, January 15, 2009
The RRBC has determined that the primary threat to the health of the Rivanna Basin, and its streams, is excessive sedimentation caused by stormwater related streamflows which scour the channels. The RRBC has now enthusiatically endorsed best management practices (BMPs) to address this threat.


The Rivanna River Basin Commission provides guidance for the stewardship of water and natural resources of the Rivanna River Basin and promotes activities by local, state, and federal governments, and by individuals, that foster resource stewardship for the environmental and economic health of the Basin.
