Charlottesville City Council: Serves as the City's legislative and governing body; appoints the City Manager, the Director of Finance, the City Assessor, the Clerk of the Council and members of major policy-making Boards and Commissions; makes policy in the areas of city planning and finances, human development, public safety and justice, public utilities, and transportation.
Charlottesville Planning Commission: Responsible for reviewing, preparing and recommending the Comprehensive Plan the City of Charlottesville; responsible for developing and recommending a zoning ordinance and map to the City Council pursuant to the Comprehensive Plan that has been adopted; considers rezoning applications, special permit applications, site plans, subdivisions and other matters pertaining to the development of the community; performs special studies of planning matters that are of interest to the community.
Charlottesville Neighborhood Development Services: Sustains a high quality of life for the community through planning, engineering, and code enforcement; develops and enforces ordinances and polices that support the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
Charlottesville Stormwater Management: Information for designing a proper stormwater management facility or low-impact development stormwater structure on your site in accordance with the Best Management Practices.
Charlottesville Water: Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution mains, water main valves and fire hydrants, as well as the connection and disconnection of all water meters.
Charlottesville Parks and Recreation: Responsible for maintaining the park system, trails, school grounds, two cemeteries and other landscapes; provides recreational and enrichment opportunities to the community.
Charlottesville Environmental Sustainability Division: Dedicated to environmental compliance, public education, environmental stewardship opportunities, and pollution prevention.

Charlottesville Water Resources Protection Plan: Addressing the water resources challenges of regulatory compliance, drainage and flooding problems, stormwater infrastructure rehabilitation, environmental protection and restoration, and public education, outreach and involvement. The City and a Citizens Advisory Committee have developed a WRPP proposal. As of January 2009, implementation of the WRPP has been postponed.
The Rivanna River Basin Commission is the regional organization that provides guidance for the stewardship and enhancement of the water and natural resources of the Rivanna River Basin in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Commission has representatives from these jurisdictions and organizations.
