Albemarle County Board of Supervisors: Albemarle County is governed by a Board of Supervisors, composed of six elected members, one from each magisterial district. The Board works with County staff to develop and implement policies, infrastructure and funding strategies in order to enhance quality of life, protect natural resources, and manage growth.
Albemarle County Planning Commission: Promotes the orderly development of Albemarle County and its environment; serves primarily in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors; serves to improve public health, safety, convenience and welfare of County citizens and to plan for the future development of the County.
Albemarle County Department of Community Development: Oversees the County’s natural resources and built environment by developing and enforcing County ordinances and polices that support the County's Comprehensive Plan. The department divisions include Planning, Zoning and Current Development, Inspections, and Administration/Operations.
Albemarle County General Services Department - Water Resources: Protects water resources and other natural resources of the County through programs such as planning and designing capital projects, ensuring the proper maintenance of privately-owned stormwater management facilities, maintaining and improving County-owned facilities, educating the public, and enforcing the prohibition of illicit discharges.
Albemarle County Parks and Recreation: Oversees the County’s open spaces and natural resources by managing nine parks, providing recreational and enrichment opportunities, and offering youth and adult sports programs.
The Rivanna River Basin Commission is the regional organization that provides guidance for the stewardship and enhancement of the water and natural resources of the Rivanna River Basin in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Commission has representatives from these jurisdictions and organizations.
